Secret Lair is Wizards of the Coast’s line of small, limited Magic: The Gathering card sets, called drops, sold directly through its MagicSecretLair.com storefront for a set time. Drops usually reprint existing cards with new art, sometimes themed on another brand. Since 2024 most drops are printed in limited runs, so popular ones can sell out early.
How a Secret Lair drop works
A Secret Lair drop is a themed group of cards sold as one product, usually in a non-foil and a foil version. Wizards announces drops in batches; a large batch is called a Superdrop. The Corn Maze Superdrop, for example, brings eight new drops on October 12, 2026, only on MagicSecretLair.com.
Each drop lists its cards and the existing card each one reprints. In the Corn Maze Superdrop, each of the two Jim Henson’s Labyrinth drops reprints six existing cards under new names and new art. One card from each of those drops shares a single painting, so the pair makes a two-card scene.
How Secret Lair sales and the queue work
Secret Lair sales run through an online queue on sale day. Wizards’ checklist for the Corn Maze Superdrop shows how it works:
- Create a Wizards Account in advance and save your shipping details.
- Join the pre-queue, which opens one hour before the sale. For Corn Maze that is 8 a.m. PT, with the sale at 9 a.m. PT.
- Get a random place in line if you were in the pre-queue when the sale starts; later arrivals join in the order they check out.
- Check out to secure the product. Wizards notes that adding products to your cart does not reserve them.
The US storefront ships to the United States and a list of other countries in the Americas and Asia-Pacific, with separate stores for Europe and the United Kingdom.

Why Secret Lair drops sell out
Secret Lair drops sell out because most are now printed ahead of the sale. In a January 2024 announcement, Wizards said Secret Lair was “shifting from a print-to-demand model to a limited-print-run model for most of the product line.” Before that, many drops were printed to match the orders placed during the sale window.
Wizards gave the reason as faster shipping, and said the change means “some products may sell out before their end date.” It added that it bases print runs on four years of past sales, aiming to get “as close to overall demand as possible.”
Secret Lair Bundles and Secret Lair Commander decks
Secret Lair also reaches beyond single drops. The Secret Lair Bundle, first released with Reality Fracture on October 2, 2026, mixes a set’s Play Boosters and Collector Boosters with promo cards drawn in Secret Lair style. Unlike most drops, it is sold at local game stores, online retailers and the Secret Lair storefront. Wizards has also sold full Secret Lair Commander decks, such as the Odds and Ends deck.
The Bundle contents are listed in what comes in a Magic Bundle, next to the regular Bundle.
Buying a Secret Lair drop after the sale
A Secret Lair drop that has sold out or closed can only be bought on the resale market. Before buying a sealed drop secondhand:
- Match the drop name exactly. Drops have long names, and the foil and non-foil versions are separate products.
- Ask for photos of the sealed box if a listing only shows the cards.
- Buy from sellers with strong feedback, and avoid listings for single cards when you want the sealed drop.
Where Secret Lair fits among Magic products
Secret Lair is mainly a collector’s product, where the appeal is the new art and the limited run. For playing, compare Play Boosters and Commander decks in which Magic product to buy. For the foil and special-treatment cards in regular sets, see Play Booster vs Collector Booster. Gift ideas for collectors are in gifts for Magic players.
Frequently asked questions
Are Secret Lair cards legal to play?
Most Secret Lair cards are new versions of existing cards with new art. Check each card's legality in Wizards' card database or on the format page before you add it to a deck for a particular format.
Why do Secret Lair drops sell out?
Since 2024, Wizards has printed most Secret Lair drops in limited runs before the sale instead of printing to order. Wizards says this means some products may sell out before their end date.
Can I buy a Secret Lair drop after the sale ends?
Not from Wizards once it sells out or the sale closes. Sealed drops are then resold by collectors, for example on eBay; look for listings that say sealed and come from sellers with strong feedback.
