A Magic: The Gathering Bundle holds nine Play Boosters plus 30 basic lands, a foil promo card, two reference cards, a spindown die and a card-storage box. That is the Reality Fracture Bundle as Wizards of the Coast lists it. The new Secret Lair Bundle adds two Collector Boosters and foil lands, and some sets add a Gift Bundle.
Why players buy a Bundle for a new set
A Bundle answers the question of what to buy when a new set comes out and you want to play with it straight away. Nine packs give you a first look at the set’s cards, the lands let you build decks from them, and the storage box keeps everything together afterward.
What is inside a Reality Fracture Bundle
The Reality Fracture Bundle contents, as Wizards of the Coast lists them in its Collecting Reality Fracture article:
| Item | Count |
|---|---|
| Reality Fracture Play Boosters | 9 |
| Traditional foil promo card | 1 |
| Basic lands | 30 (15 traditional foil, 15 non-foil) |
| Reference cards | 2 |
| Spindown die | 1 |
| Card-storage box | 1 |
Wizards’ product page adds that the spindown is oversized and that every pack in the Bundle includes a legendary card with its alternate version. Each Play Booster holds 14 cards, so the nine packs add up to 126 cards before the lands.
What a spindown die and storage box are for
The spindown die and the storage box are the reasons many players pick a Bundle over loose packs. A spindown die is a 20-sided die that players use to keep track of a life total; Wizards’ Foundations Beginner Box lists its two dice as “spindown life counters.”
The card-storage box holds the cards you open, sorted, and the 30 basic lands are enough to build decks from the packs. That makes a Bundle a small kit for playing a new set at home.

The Secret Lair Bundle, new with Reality Fracture
The Secret Lair Bundle is a new kind of product that Wizards first released with Reality Fracture. It combines a set’s packs with promo cards drawn in the style of Secret Lair. Each Reality Fracture Secret Lair Bundle contains:
- 6 Reality Fracture Play Boosters
- 2 Reality Fracture Collector Boosters
- 2 traditional foil Secret Lair Bundle promo cards (from 10 possible)
- 20 traditional foil tower basic lands
- 1 spindown die
- 1 card-storage box
Wizards says it plans to release a Secret Lair Bundle with each of its Magic Multiverse sets going forward, including the recently announced Nauctis: The Sunken Realm. Secret Lair Bundles are sold at local game stores, online retailers and the Secret Lair storefront. For how Secret Lair itself works, see what Secret Lair is.
Gift Bundles in some Magic sets
A Gift Bundle is a Bundle variant that some sets receive. Wizards describes The Hobbit Gift Bundle as “Play Boosters, a Collector Booster, accessories, and dazzling full-art surge foil Seasonal basic lands and a one-of-a-kind spindown.” Not every set has one, so search by the set name plus “Gift Bundle.”
Bundle or booster box for a new set
A Bundle and a booster box suit different buyers:
- A gift for a player: a Bundle. It comes with accessories, and nine packs are plenty to open in one sitting.
- A player starting a new set from nothing: a Bundle, for the lands, the die and the box.
- A draft group or a player building many decks: a Play Booster box, with 30 packs.
- A collector: Collector Boosters, or the Secret Lair Bundle for its promos and two Collector Boosters.
Box sizes are compared in how many packs are in a booster box, and the two pack types in Play Booster vs Collector Booster. Every product type is listed in which Magic product to buy, and more gift ideas are in gifts for Magic players.
Frequently asked questions
How many packs are in an MTG Bundle?
A Reality Fracture Bundle has 9 Play Boosters. The Secret Lair Bundle for the same set has 8 packs: 6 Play Boosters and 2 Collector Boosters.
Is a Bundle or a booster box better value?
A booster box gives more packs: 30 Play Boosters against 9 in a Bundle. A Bundle adds lands, a promo card, a spindown life counter and a storage box, which makes it the easier gift or starter kit for a set.
What is a Gift Bundle?
A Gift Bundle is a version of the Bundle that some sets get for the holidays. Wizards describes The Hobbit Gift Bundle as Play Boosters, a Collector Booster, accessories, full-art surge foil basic lands and a one-of-a-kind spindown.
